Julian Dicks has this week given his views on West Ham United’s current plight in the basement battle at the bottom of the league. He appeared on sky sports news yesterday and was quick to shift the blame from the under-fire manager onto the shoulders of the players. The former hammers hard man said, “I have always said it is down to the players. When they cross that white line it is down to them to perform and work hard.”

Dicks, who was no stranger to a bone crunching challenge and earned a positive reputation with the fans for his no-nonsense approach and winning mentality added, “I’m glad Zola is staying. He is the right man for the job and i’m optimistic they’ll stay up.”

These optimistic words should be taken as a boost to the players as they prepare to return from their three day rest on wednesday and get straight back into the hard work to prepare for the crunch game against Everton at Goodison Park in the super sunday game live on sky sports. West Ham go into this game looking to avoid their 7th successive defeat in the league, a stark contrast from the 06/07 season where they won 7 out of their last 10 games to avoid the drop on the last day. Fans would probably be right think there is no real hope of 4 wins from the final 6 games this time around, as the hammers face tough games against Liverpool, Man City, and a tricky trip to a rejuvenated Fulham side.

However, the players will be hoping to get enough points to save their own and the Zola’s skins, and develop their squad for next season under the guidance of the new owners, either with or without their pressured Italian manager.
