Another disappointing result…

West Ham United tied this weeks fixture by a scoreline of 1-1 to visitors Wigan Athletic. A pretty disappointing home result mostly because the Hammers had to come from behind to secure a point on their home grounds. West Ham apparently dominated most of the first half (I was unable to watch the game live) but could not get past Wigan’s stingy defense; well that and Bobby Zamora cannot seem to put his shots anywhere near the opposing net. It also doesn’t help to have Scott Parker, Freddie Ljunberg, and Julien Faubert still out with injury. Still, you would think that Kieron Dyer and Craig Bellamy would help the attack, but it seems that West Ham are relying on young midfielder Mark Noble for all their attacking creativity and that is just not going to cut it in the Premier League if they plan on not getting relegated. Thankfully, Derby County is already doing a great job of punching an early ticket to the Championship League next season.
On a positive note, team captain Lucas Neill returned to action, thus putting American defender Jonathan Spector on the bench. Also, Alan Curbishley has stated that England striker Dean Ashton should be making his first start this Tuesday versus Bristol Rovers.
Game Summary:
Final – Upton Park Attendance: 33,793
West Ham 1 – 1 Wigan
Wigan Goal: Paul Scharner (78)
West Ham Goal: Lee Bowyer (81)
