Blackburn Rovers 0-0 West Ham

By: Martin | August 30th, 2009

Saturday’s match up with Blackburn never was going to be ninety minutes of excitement considering that it was the Hammers’ third match in seven days. The Hammers’ were mentally and physically exhausted after the 120 minutes against Millwall on Tuesday and with new boy Alessandro Diamanti unable to get clearance before Saturday it was up to Carlton Cole to be the lone target yet again.

It was Cole who came closest to scoring in the first half when after twenty minutes he collect a pass from Scott Parker and quickly passed three Blackburn players before hitting his shot high and wide.

Opportunities were few and far between for either side in the first half. Early in second half Cole shot high over the goal from 20 yards, while James Collins did the same from a Mark Noble corner shortly after. Kieron Dyer came on for Luis Jimenez half way through the second half, but he was unable to make an impact on the game. After a couple of attempts on goal by Blackburn’s Canadian midfielder, David Hoilett, the game petered out to its ultimate scoreless outcome.
