Dyer is official…

So after a few days with no interesting news to report, West Ham have officially announced the signing of Kieron Dyer from Newcastle. This doesn’t come as any suprise since it was pretty much in discussion over the past few weeks after Newcastle rejected West Ham’s initial bid of £6 Million. Personally I don’t think the addition of Dyer is going to be any sort of revelation for this team, although he does add a little more speed to midfield. Here is a what Curbs had to say about the signing:
‘We’re trying to build a squad here; we are short in the middle, and Kieron can play that position…
‘We’re delighted to get the player. Newcastle changed it at the last minute before – when he was just walking in the door – so that was disappointing.
‘But common sense has prevailed; Kieron is looking forward to joining us, and Newcastle go down their route.
‘Every player you sign has risks – and he is no different. I hope he hits the ground running and shows everyone what a good player he is.’
Sounds very excited doesn’t he? £8 Million too… *sigh* Anyway, those concerned about Dyer being re-united with his buddy Lee Bowyer have no need to worry, Curbs addressed this issue as well:
‘I spoke to both players and have been assured that it was a one-off, and they both speak to each other regularly.
‘It was just two players desperate to do well; they were getting well beaten, and it just boiled over.
I hope Curbishley is right about this one because I do not want to see this anytime soon.
In other transfer related news Curbishley has stated that the move for Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is in the backburner, as Gudjohnsen is still working to recover from a pre-season injury. If this transfer does happen it’ll most likely end up happening during the winter transfer window. As far as Nolberto Solano goes, Newcastle has reported that they have not had any serious offers for the player and Big Sam doesn’t plan on selling him either, so that should put to rest those rumours.
For those interested in re-living the past, Sheffield United have announced that they plan on taking more legal action on West Ham in hopes of receiving financial compensation. Rumours state that cost to be between £30million and £50million. In my opinion, Sheffield United should concentrate on winning the championship and not whining! Here is more info from Bob.
