Everton 2-2 West Ham
By: Martin | April 5th, 2010
A point, yes a point, not a loss. We got a Brazilian and he got us a point. Hammers fans everywhere must have been surprised when against all odds we got a point against a half decent team. Perhaps we won’t be playing against the likes of Scunthorpe and Norwich next season.
Everton gained the lead after a Jonathan Spector howler. The Hammers defender didn’t get a good header away from a cross into the box and Tim Cahill nodded it to Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (I can’t pronounce that) who glanced it past Rob Green.
Hammers were given the gift of a penalty as Carlton Cole was very slightly nudged to the ground. Perhaps a penalty? Perhaps not. But karma’s a bitch and why someone didn’t take the ball from the Kung Fu Panda (Mido) before he took the penalty I will never understand. The overweight and underskilled Egyptian hit the ball with less power than a twelve year old girl on a school soccer team. Fail.
The second half saw the Hammers start well and actually looked like they wanted to win. It must have taken Everton by surprise and Manuel Da Costa’s determination saw him bundle the ball into the Everton goal for an equalizer after a scrappy corner. Minutes later Everton had a good penalty appeal turned down after goalscorer Da Costa made a hard tackle on Louis Saha. But Everton retook the lead from a Yakubu header and it looked seven defeats in a row.
But the Hammers showed spirit, yes even passion, when Julien Faubert delivered a flash of brilliance across the Everton goal with the Brazilian Ilan throwing himself goalbound and heading the ball into the goal for a late equalizer and a point.
