Hull 1-0 West Ham
By: Ted | October 27th, 2008
West Ham came undone at the Premiership’s form team by the odd goal from a corner. Like so many Premier League games nowadays, the first goal proved all important. Although Hull dominated the opening few minutes, West Ham whethered the early storm and eventually took control of the proceedings. However, despite having more of the ball, Hull were having more clear cut chances. The most memorable moment of the first half was when Ilunga nicked the ball off their keeper when he was preparing to punt it away, and lobbed it into the back of the net with a bicycle kick. It wasn’t given all those years ago when George Best did it, wasn’t given when Zamora tried the same thing a few seasons ago, and it wasn’t given this time either. Nice to watch though all the same. The second half was pretty forgettable. Hull scored from a corner, and Zola threw on a bunch of strikers but there could be no breakthrough. A game that could have gone either way, and it went against us. My star performers were:
Parker: One of the better players these days in terms of breaking up attacking play from the opposition, just needs to provide some offensive support from us.
Cole: Got a chance or two and showed his physical abilities. Should have scored when he hit the underside of the bar from our best real chance.
Ilunga: Man of the match. Got forward all the time and was solid in defense. Didn’t do much, but didn’t have to on the day to outshine the others.
