Is the Midfield Cursed???
By: Erick | August 30th, 2007
Kieron Dyer’s leg is broken in TWO PLACES?!?!?! First down was Julien Faubert, then Scott Parker, now with the season in full swing Freddie Ljunberg and Kieron Dyer have gone out! What gives!?!?!? Is it the Tevez affair that still haunts us, or have the peeps at Sheffield Utd cast some Voodoo on us? Time will tell once West Ham manage to sign another midfielder…
Luckily, Curbs and Eggert have a few more hours to get another replacement. Who will it be? Well, rumours say that West Ham are still after 19 year old Giles Barnes from Derby County and have also placed a bid for left back Nicky Shorey of Reading. Needless to say, Steve Coppell isn’t very thrilled considering the two sides meet this weekend.
Here is what Coppell had to say:
“There’s a certain amount of activity going on behing the scenes, so something may happen,”
“I can’t deny West Ham have made an offer [for Shorey], but I look at the price of players and I consider the offer they made as being derisory, not serious.
“It’s an offer made to put the whole issue in the public domain, an invitation to cause unrest in a way. I long for the days when we used to do business by phone, you talk about it, a deal’s not accepted and nobody knows.
“I think the player is happy at Reading, but speculation about your future is bound to be unsettling. I hope he’s playing for us on Saturday, let’s see.”
Can’t really blame Coppell, but unfortunately these are new rules we play by and selling sports rags is a big business. Either way, I hope West Ham can land both players and have quality players out for this weekends match.
A bit of good news despite all the injury setbacks are that Craig Bellamy finally scored two goals on Tuesday and James Collins has come off the injured list coming off the bench in the 2nd half against the Bristol Rovers. This boosts the defense as Lucas Neill came off the injured list last week against Wigan.
That’s it for now, more news tomorrow when the transfer window comes to a close…

The image of Sheffield fans hiding in their closets poking West Ham voodoo dolls with pins doesn’t seem too far fetched. Or is could just be a string of bad luck. Shall be interesting to see what moves, if any, are made during the next 24 hours.

Exactly, I think West Ham just might be out of options right now though…

You? Cursed? No way…
Stay away from me you jinx!
(Joking aside, rotten luck with Faubert. He was actually looking quite good. Actually, Faubert, Parker, and Dyer have all been brilliant signings for the club, absolute shame, really.)
