No News Is Good News???
By: Erick | August 21st, 2007
After claiming their first victory of the season at Birmingham last Saturday, it appears all has gone quiet at Upton Park, and I for one think it’s nice. No talk of the Tevez saga, no talk of “The Great Escape”, no talk of Curbishley having bust-ups with his former players. I think it’s safe to say that things might be heading in the right direction for the first time in a while.
Actually, I’m lying a little here in saying there is no news to report on the West Ham front. Welsh internationals Danny Gabbidon & James Collins have been given two-year contract extensions by the club. Interestingly enough neither of these two have seen any action of late, as Collins has been recuperating from a nagging groin injury and Gabbidon has yet to see any minutes because of Curbishley’s faith in Anton Ferdinand and Matthew Upson. But getting a contract extension should be a sure sign that they are valuable to the club and will see playing time soon.
Some Rumours…
There are grumblings around the net that West Ham are interesting in signing Ghanian midfielder Stephen Appiah, as he is in London for an international friendly. Lastly, some local radio in Derby is reporting that the Hammers have signed 19 year old midfielder Giles Barnes. Nothing official yet…

Don’t know much about Appiah but Gabbidon seemed positive about the new contract. He has to see all the injuries around and a long season and know he’ll get his chances.

West Ham did well to avoid relegation last season and they must be glad to be finally rid of the Tevez saga that was hanging over their heads for so much of the off season. They have some quality players in the team and I expect that once they get going they shouldn’t struggle at all.
Craig Bellamy should link up well with Dean Ashton who they missed for much of last season and if Dyer can avoid laying one on old sparing partner Bowyer then I see the Hammers easily making it into the top half. I’m not sure about qualifying for Europe though, but you never know football is a funny old game.
Myself and a friend of mine have created a website dedicated to reviewing world football shirts, if you get the chance go on over to http://www.worldfootballshirts.net and give your team a grilling on their shirts for the 2007/08 season. Or any other for that matter. Thanks!

Do u think Dyer will be that much handy. Against Germany he was nothing better than poor. Missed the sitters. BTW Lamps scored against Germany…Im sure it must be like rubbing the salt on the old wounds.
