Passion

Where is it?
My name is Rob Smith, and this will be my first post. I wish to start by asking where the passion is in our team. Matthew Upson was yesterday quoted as saying the team had hit near rock bottom, and that they didn’t know how to play as a team anymore.
Now, with the team 1 place above the relegation zone and Hull below us with a game in hand, this statement scares me. Especially after the god-awful performance against wolves in the bag on monday, which did make me worry for the 1st time about our chances of survival, as before we had just been doing well enough to keep our heads above water, with convincing performances last month against portsmouth and hull, many fans would have been boosted by the fact we looked as though we could beat the teams around us and shoot to the top of the mini league that has developed in the bottom half.
However, we seem to have backtracked and are now guilty of handing in half-hearted quarter-hearted performances such as the one on monday night which showed no determination, passion or any sort of hard work from anyone, possibly with the exception of Scott Parker, whose industry from midfield was unlucky not to craft an equaliser on the stroke of half time. The most frustrating thing about us at the moment is we have a squad easily capable of solid mid table mediocrity, which doesn’t sound half bad when you take our current predicament into account.
If we can get some genuine belief injected into the place then I have no doubt we can stay up, especially as the teams below us aren’t exactly setting the league on fire with their performances. The fans have a major part to play in this however, as chants of “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” probably doesn’t inspire too much confidence. If we can get behind the team even if the most simple things are completed well, the confidence will with any hope wash over the squad as a whole and allow us to push on and allow us to tread water until the summer.

Rob,
I handle the Arsenal Offside website — welcome to our community, it’s always nice to have another blogger on board. Best of luck with the site and with West Ham trying to stay up.

Hi Martin, I heard about your blog in the 11 pm show on Live 365 Radio Washington, they presented a show soccer blogs. Right after I checked out your posts about West Ham United. Awesome job mate! It hits the point way to go.
