Zola Rents a Ferrari

But this Ferrari is 17 years old, does not go much over 10 mph and will surely cost more in the long run than a brand spanking new F430. Apparently Zola managed to secure the services of Davide Ferrari from Brescia Calcio before the transfer window, but due to obtaining clearances, the deal was not announced until yesterday. The Italian defender will be at Upton Park on a season’s loan with a view to a permanent signing. Coincidentally, ex-Hammer Walter Lopez, who was released at the end of last season after only five appearances, is currently plying his trade at Brescia Calcio. And one more link between the two clubs is that Savio Nsereko was bought from Brescia Calcio in January, before he was exchanged for Fiorentina’s Manuel da Costa last month.

Once fifty percent of the Hammers first team is from Italy, I will be writing these entries in Italian. Ciao for now.

  The Savio deal seems to have been a strange one, he arrived for a lot of money but never really got a chance and now he has gone, was he not able to settle?

  I tried to find a definitive quote about why Savio was jettisoned so quickly and there seems to be a couple of possibles. I know Savio was Kevin Keen’s project to get him up to Premiership standard and in 10 games it may have been that issue that was the driving force behind his return to Italy. I found this quote
  “Zola conceded earlier in the summer that the 19-year-old had failed to adapt to the physical demands and pace of English football but was hopeful he would do so given time.”
  Plus I found some Scott Duxbury quotes who said, “Had our financial situation been different we would have preferred to have kept and developed Savio. However, we are required to make savings and our policy has always been to sell players on the fringes rather than established first-team players.”

  I suppose we are not in the situation that we can spend the time fully developing a player the lads need to be able to play and gain experience from there
