Collins Transfer To Stoke Has Stalled
By: Martin | August 19th, 2009
James Collins failed to agree personal terms with Stoke today, so it appears his move looks unlikely to happen. With Gianfranco Zola’s comments about not needing to sell players, the Collins’ deal with Stoke may be more about raising some cash to buy a player than needed to sell to balance the books. The Collins’ deal was worth around £5m and this would certainly help Zola raise his bid for the Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, who is valued at £7.5m by his club, Bordeaux.
Chamakh was a target for Arsenal earlier this summer, but they valued the player at around £5m and backed out of negotiations at the beginning of this month. Now that the Collins’ deal has fallen through Zola may have to rethink his plan with Chamakh, or any other potential signing, unless there is another deal brewing.

Martin I just wanted to say welcome and glad to see the Hammers back on board! I am a lifelong Milan fan, but my namesake GZola always has a place in my heart and with it a new found interest in West Ham football. Look forward to following the club here all season, keep up the good work!

Unfortunately for Mr Collins, it looks like despite playing 90 minutes against Wolves last Saturday, GZ sees him rather in the same way he did Matthew Etherington; surplus to requirements. Although to be fair to Collins, he’s a solid player and a transfer to Aston Villa wouldn’t be something to sneezed at.
