Villa To Bid On Upson
By: Martin | August 20th, 2009
As Aston Villa’s season has began in a rather shaky manner, manager Martin O’Neill may be opening his check book with a £12 million bid for Matthew Upson. Having already been stalked by Manchester City, Villa may have to significantly increase their offer to prize Upson out of the West Ham line-up. With a goal against Wolves last Saturday, Upson’s valuation can only go up and will be certainly continue be a fixture in the England team. Reports are that Zola has a £15 million figure in mind, but that may not even be enough to secure a deal before the close of the transfer window.
Update (Aug 21): Reports are that James Collins may be a secondary target for Martin O’Neill. After Collins couldn’t finalize a deal with Stoke, perhaps a move to Aston Villa may lead to a win-win situation.
